Our Community & Vision

Growing the game in the Northwoods since 2009

About the Eagle River Pickleball Association

To grow the sport of pickleball in the Eagle River area by providing welcoming, inclusive opportunities for recreation, connection, and healthy living, while building a strong community through play

The Eagle River Pickleball Association (ERPA) is a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization dedicated to growing the sport of pickleball and building community. As a registered 501(c)(3), ERPA welcomes players of all ages and skill levels — from beginners picking up a paddle for the first time to experienced competitors.

With 300+ members and growing, ERPA serves year-round residents, seasonal homeowners, and visitors who share a love for staying active, meeting new people, and enjoying everything the Northwoods has to offer.

At its heart, ERPA is about more than pickleball. It’s about friendship, health, connection, and community.

Our Story

Pickleball first came to Eagle River in 2009, when local resident Al Geiger introduced the sport to the area. What began as a small group of curious players quickly grew into an enthusiastic and dedicated community.

Outdoor play started with just a couple of courts at Riverview Park. Over time, additional lines, permanent nets, and fencing were added, expanding the facility to six dedicated outdoor courts. As interest continued to grow, indoor play opportunities began during the 2012–2013 winter season at Northland Pines High School, allowing players to stay active year-round.

In 2014, the Eagle River Pickleball Association officially formed as a nonprofit organization. Since then, ERPA has helped introduce and expand pickleball throughout the surrounding Northwoods communities, contributing to the sport’s rapid regional growth.

Who We Are Today

  • Recreational and social play
  • Skill development and friendly competition
  • Community events and organized activities
  • Connecting neighbors, friends, and families through sport

Our courts are places where new friendships form, laughter is common, and players encourage one another on and off the court. ERPA is powered by volunteers who share their time, energy, and passion to keep the organization running and the community engaged.

Whether you are a long-time resident or just visiting the area, you’ll find a warm welcome on our courts.

Community Involvement

ERPA proudly supports the Eagle River community beyond the courts. Each year, members volunteer at Cranberry Fest, assisting the Chamber of Commerce by selling cranberries.

Looking Ahead

As pickleball continues to grow in popularity, so does the need for expanded facilities in Eagle River. ERPA is currently working to secure land for a new, dedicated 10-court pickleball complex that will serve the community for generations to come.

  • Expanded play opportunities
  • Youth and beginner programs
  • Community events and tournaments
  • A gathering place that promotes healthy, active living

This project represents the next chapter in ERPA’s story — one focused on long-term community impact, accessibility, and growth.
